Craftivism

In 2024/25 I have been leading a team using craftivism as a research methodology as part of a wider project with Bristol City Council’s Serious Violence Prevention Board. We worked with 157 children and young people (13-25 years old) who identified as being impacted by Serious Violence in Bristol. We adapted The Clothesline Project model using school shirts to try and understand what serious violence means to young people and what they wanted to express on this issue.

We (myself, Prof Jo Staines, and Tatiana Powell) are currently writing a book on this project, to be published by Emerald in May 2027. Watch this space!

An overview of our aims are summarised in this interview with Bristol 24/7 here: https://lnkd.in/eFncVXjw

The Bristol Post has featured some of the young people who took part:

The project was featured in The IndependentBBC NewsThe Police and Crime Commissioners Blog and BBC Radio. It was also on ITV News which featured me discussing the shirts, access here.
